COVID 19 Outbreak

The 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic was first identified to have spread to Malaysia on 25 January 2020. Reported cases remained relatively low until a large spike in cases in March 2020, most of them linked to a religious event held in Kuala Lumpur in late February and early March. Within a few weeks after the event, Malaysia had become the country with the highest cumulative number of confirmed COVID-19 infections in South East Asia.As of 2 April 2020, there are 3,116 confirmed cases in the country, with 50 deaths reported.

Malaysia's Yang di-Pertuan Agong expressed his greatest concerns over the jump in positive cases in early March. Measures were then announced by the Prime Minister of Malaysia to counter the spread of the virus within the country in a live nationwide telecast on 13 March 2020 With the spread of the virus into all of Malaysian states and federal territories by 16 March, the Malaysian government announced that it has decided to implement a "Movement Control Order" from 18 March to 31 March to curb the further growth of positive cases in the country through social distancing. On 25 March, the government extended the Movement Control Order from 1 April to 14 April 2020 in an attempt to curb the rapid rise in number of cases. There have, however, been considerations of a further lockdown until late April or May, due to the anticipated spike in cases (most likely attributed to a lack of compliance to the March-April MCO).

Despite the MCO and Social Distancing, some of the essential services is require to open and operate as usual. We need to take some counter measure to prevent these services are protected from COVID 19. One way to avoid the spreading of COVID 19 virus is to ensure every operators/staffs/workers on essential services must go through the body temperature measurement. What is thermal?

Principle

Any object with temperature above absolute zero emits a detectable amount of radiations. Thermal camera converts IR radiations into gray value, and establishes the accurate corresponding relation between gray value and temperature through the temperature measurement algorithm model. The model (Temperature Gray Level Curve) is obtained by black-body calibration.

Advantages

1.High Efficiency: It takes only one second that thermal camera can detect temperature of each person. Thus, no congestion will be made when passing through the site where temperature needs to check.

2.Safety: Thermal camera supports non-contact temperature measurement which can achieve accurately measuring temperature around 1 meter away. That reduces the risk of infection coming from physical contact.

Application

It is well-known that one major symptom of virus infections is fever. Therefore, thermal camera with high temperature accuracy can detect the elevated body temperature to make the preliminary screening. Thermal cameras are advisable to be installed at the places with long queues such as passport control.
